About this Event
Join us for Wétu Dakhód’iapi Oéthi, a Dakota Language Weekend Day Camp May 3 & 4, 9:30-4:30 daily. The camp is located at Belwin Conservancy, near Afton, MN.
Plan to spend the day both inside and outside. We will spend time learning everyday Dakota for beginning and intermediate levels and we will continue our learning through land based education, playing traditional games, and engaging in cultural activities. We will share meals and hear from our treasured elders. All levels of Dakota are welcome.
Our target audience is Dakota families, including extended families and adult community members. All ages are welcome. We want to provide space and opportunity for families and community members to learn and speak Dakhóta with each other. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
This is a free multi-generational day camp. Spots are limited. Register you and your family members to secure your spot. Sign-up only if you are reasonably certain that you will attend. Please order 1 ticket for every person attending so we can plan for the right number of teachers, food and supplies.
While this is a free event, consider making a tax-deductible donation to Dakhóta Iápi Okhódakičhiye (DIO). Your contribution will assist in the creation of new Dakota language materials for use in the home, community and classroom! It is critical that we create Dakota language infrastructure to be utilized by second language learners of all ages. Here is a link to our donation page. https://dakhota.org/donate/
