Picky New Promotions with UoN Student Life are excited to welcome Wynona Bleach to Northampton on Tues, Oct 22, at The Black Prince.Wynona Bleach are one of the most exciting alternative rock bands from Northern Ireland, formed in 2018 in Belfast. They released their first single, 'Eyes Burning,’ followed by debut EP ‘Sugar’ in August 2019, making live session appearances on BBC Radio as well as generating airplay on BBC 6 Music, BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, KXLU (Los Angeles), and KEXP (Seattle), compelling legendary music writer Stuart Bailie to comment that ‘the guitars rise up like fuzz-mountains and the melodies are strangely sweet. It’s a rich combination, and the critic who invented the term “gaze-pop” may be onto something.’
No strangers to big shows, Wynona Bleach have performed at Reading and Leeds festivals, a televised Belfast Ulster Hall show with SOAK, The Divine Comedy and Therapy? which celebrated 30 years of BBC Introducing in NI. Prior to this, they supported Feeder, The Slow Reader’s Club, Lonely the Brave and their biggest shows to date: being personally invited to support the mighty Alice In Chains for two sold-out 1600 capacity venues in May 2019, in Dublin’s Olympia Theatre and Belfast’s Telegraph Building.
In August 2021, Wynona Bleach signed with legendary Indie label Fierce Panda Records (Placebo, Supergrass, Ash, Coldplay) ahead of the release of their debut LP ‘Moonsoake’ which sold out immediately and is now on its second vinyl pressing. With glorious indie alternative rock tunes reminiscent of acts such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Curve, The Joy Formidable, and Wolf Alice, the album was co-produced by Bill Ryder-Jones of The Coral. The album features tracks mixed by Grammy-nominated Andy Bradfield and Avril Mackintosh who have had extensive careers working alongside artists including Manic Street Preachers, Tori Amos, Bjӧrk, and Rufus Wainwright. ‘Swim in the Bay,’ their latest single, was released earlier this year ahead of their hotly anticipated second album coming soon, again produced by Bradfield and Mackintosh.
Catch them in Northampton at The Black Prince on Tuesday, Oct 22. Support comes from three up-and-coming bands in the scene, local indie-folk bedroom pop musician Freya Rose and alternative rockers Lily on the Green, and Brighton-based Fever Rouge, who blend indie rock with funk and grunge influences.
