About this Event
This is a great section of the OT (Onondaga trail) and fun route for seasoned or new backpackers- I've done it several times and LOVE It each time. It is a moderately challenging hike even for avid hikers due to elevation, terrain and the extra weight you will be carrying etc. We will talk more about gear, cleaning water and all the fun ins and outs of backpacking via a zoom as we plan. Don't worry if you're brand new, I’ll guide you each step of the way. We will hike together, but also incorporate the buddy system for some added support.
Please only mark going or register if you are committed to going as we will have a very limited number of slots. Spots will be first registered and I’ll create a wait list.
Below are some very basic details:
Day 1- this day we will travel/carpool then start by 11am at the trail head (ozark outdoors) for a 6mi hike. we will be disperse camping this night, need to clean water and prep for the next day etc etc. its a great lead into a longer day the next day. carpooling will be discussed and planned with those registered during the zoom.
Day 2- start with a water crossing then complete 8-9mi. We will end in at bass resort to drop tent, but we can restock items, get a shower etc. ohhh and we can order pizza!! Please note that the water crossing could be knee deep or as high as chest deep depending on the water level. I will check this as it gets closer.
Day 3- we will rent kayaks and yak our full route back to the car. this is a moderate kayak with gear strapped to your boat and is @12-13mi. PFD's are provided.
Cost: if you book your slots before 4/1 there is a 10% off deal making your primitive camping site $15.58 and your kayak rental $41.40 per person. Each person will be responsible to book and pay for your own; information to do so will be shared once you are registered.
Friendly reminder- each attendee will need to have their own backpacking gear, tent, food etc. We will do some co-carrying of some items to help with weight and cost.
