Sunday July 21st 2024 10 -4.This year we will be heading to Washington’s fair Capital City of Olympia. WRS has planned activities for the day including a visit to the Olympia Farmer’s Market , picnic lunch at the lovely wooded Squaxin Park, and a stroll through the State Capital
grounds.
The Olympia Farmer’s Market has become very popular over the years. You will find local produce, meat, and baked goods as well as local artisans and nurseries. July is a good time to get some fresh fruit or vegetables and there are food stands where you
can pick up something delicious to include in your picnic lunch. We will meet you there at 10:00 AM when they open. If you should arrive early, you can stroll the waterfront boardwalk and enjoy a panoramic view of the Olympic Mountains.
Starting at 11:00 we will be meeting at Squaxin Park at picnic shelter #4. (formerly Priest Point Park) which is just a short drive up Eastlake Drive NE on the southern most point of Puget Sound. We have reserved a picnic shelter there with ample picnic tables. This is not a potluck, bring your own personal picnic. You may also wish to bring a historically inspired table and/or picnic ware. This adds to the historical ambiance. WRS will have iced tea and lemonade available.
The park is also known for its many trails through old growth forest. Beach access is a short stroll away (walking shoes recommended). If you should wish to play Croquet or Graces, a lawn is just a few steps away from our shelter. We have our picnic shelter #4 booked until 4:00 PM, so there is plenty of time to wander and visit with friends.
If you have time, a visit to our State Capital would afford great picture opportunities. The State Capital grounds have gardens, memorials, and of course our lovely State Capital buildings. If you want to tour the Capital building, you would need to do so before 4:00 PM. (Hours are 11:00 – 4:00). The grounds also include a sunken garden (formerly a rose garden).
It's not our usual English Garden experience but The PNW never disappoints in the summer.
Please carpool. Drop off items & go to parking. 2 Disabled parking spots only at our site
