Magic the mundane! This creative writing workshop will explore bringing fantastical and sometimes surreal elements into our poetry.
About this Event

Magic the mundane! This workshop will explore bringing fantastical and sometimes surreal elements into our poetry. We will generate new poetry that blurs reality and imagination by exploring poetry about talking plants, mystical animals, and strange happenings. Come ready to be delighted and open to seeing poetry as a portal to the unknown.

This class is open to writers of all levels, with or without experience with poetry.

Hannah Yerington

Hannah Yerington is a poet, a Jewish Arts and Magic educator, and the director of the Bolinas Poetry Camp for Girls. She comes from Bolinas, California, and lives in Bellingham, Washington. She published her first book, Sheologies, with Minerva Rising Press in 2023. When she’s not writing, she’s drinking tea, or talking to flowers, preferably at once.

Sheologies

The poems in SHEOLOGIES begin with a folktale of a world where lagoons speak, flowers pray, and seagulls wear kippahs. They invite the reader to personally engage in the ancient technologies of Jewish magic, prayer, and mystical text to locate our present-day ancestors and create new rituals. Through fabulism, folklore, and lyric prose, SHEOLOGIES swirls reverie with recipes, spells, and prayers. It is as much embodied practice as text, tracing a nonlinear journey through a world left by Jewish feminine ancestors, plantcestors, and priestesses. SHEOLOGIES ask what it means to heal lineage, center women’s magic as community care, call on a feminine God, and lean into our sacred longings.

Where to buy Hannah’s work?

It is not necessary to purchase Hannah's book for the class, but if you’d like to support her, please consider buying her book at the event or please send us a message and we'll provide a copy.
