Join CERC Migration for a one-day workshop on writing grant proposals and fundraising for research
About this Event

This research gym is organised into two parts. In the first part, we will provide an overview of research grant opportunities and concrete advice and guidelines on how to prepare a strong pre- and post-doctoral fellowship application. We will focus on Canadian schemes but also on international opportunities. In the second half of the gym, we will look at research grant writing more broadly and provide advice and guidance on building your own research proposal. During the session, participants will have the opportunity to brainstorm and create a structured outline as a starting point for their own proposals. Participants are expected to have some familiarity with related funding schemes.

About the workshop leaders:

Anna Triandafyllidou is an internationally renowned sociologist and migration expert whose innovative interdisciplinary research influences debates and policies on migration and asylum; the management of cultural diversity, nationalism and identity; and the contemporary global challenges of migration and integration. She has held the Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Migration and Integration at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) since 2019 and recently was named Scientific Director of Bridging Divides, a new $98.6 million project funded by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF).

Monica Gagnon is a SSHRC postdoctoral fellow at CERC Migration, researching the ways in which discourses of citizenship and belonging influence bordering in immigration and health policy and practice. Her work sits at the intersection of immigration and health care, focusing on Canada and the United States. Monica teaches academic writing and advises students on developing research proposals. She holds a PhD in public health from the University of Toronto and a MPH in health policy from the City University of New York.

Our workshops are often oversubscribed, and we maintain a waiting list. We ask that you please cancel your registration if you can no longer attend. Tickets are non-refundable. We appreciate your understanding.
