he workshop will look at how where we write is just as important as what we write. That immersive writing experiences create immersive writing for readers. The workshop will focus on the skills of using everyday settings to elevate writing by creating realistic details.Starting with a power point presentation showing the immersive experience of writing from the wetlands for my doctoral novel Eye of the Ibis and writing from a small-town pub in Dumbleyung that resulted in the Follow the Salt collection, including reading extracts from the work. I will then conduct a short writing experiment of writing a tree inside the room before journeying outside the workshop room, taking our notebooks into the surrounding gardens, to write a tree from reality. We will then share the work to see how the writing changed. There will then be a tea break before we dive into a longer period of immersive writing outside before returning to the room to share and edit work, looking at structure and theme. By the end of the workshop participants will have a new understanding about writing from nature and should have at least two flash fiction pieces suitable for submission to journals and writing competitions.
