About this Event
Write and Burn! is a poetry performance competition aimed at youth between the ages of 15 and 18 from all backgrounds and all schools/junior colleges/centralized institutions. In previous iterations of the competition, Madrasah students performed alongside students from junior colleges, centralised institutions, Millennia Institute and international schools.
The 2024 Write and Burn! theme is ‘Fear Un.bound.' Fear manifests in endless guises such as anguished imaginings, hesitation, insecurities. Refusing fear's tyranny sets one free. This poetry competition invites lyric explorations of dread, anxiety and cowardice - alongside means to still these feelings.
The finals will include a showcase of poetry by the finalists as well as of the host, published poet and literary ciritc Jonathan Chan, and some of the judges, Singapore LIterature Prize winner Desmond FX Kon Zhicheng Mingde, Shilpa Dikshit Thapliyal and Ow Yeong Wai Kit.
