Ana Barajas and Cruz del Sur play original and classic South American folkloric music, fusing contemporary electronic sounds with Andean flutes, charango, Colombian gaita and hand percussion.
The musicians hail from Colombia, Bolivia and El Salvador. They will take you on “a mystical and dreamy journey through the sounds of the South American Andes in dialogue with soundscapes from other latitudes.”
World Music Encounters is a groundbreaking monthly concert series (September 2023-May 2024) featuring the city’s best international artists.
Presented by St. David's Episcopal Church, the series aims to connect the community to, and through, global music and conversations. We offer this series as a gift to the community as well as an opportunity to expand our cultural understanding and global consciousness.

10.15.23 – ANA BARAJAS AND CRUZ DEL SUR: traditional music from the Andes of South America.
11.5.23 – MAHMOUD CHOUKI: Moroccan oud player brings his hot Mediterranean jazz band to Austin from New Orleans. He plays the international festival circuit and recently performed with Jon Batiste.
12.10.23 – ULLA: Celtic quintet with the phenomenal Irish singers Andrea Magee and Pat Byrne, and Rich Brotherton on guitar.
1.7.24 – IBRAHIM AMINOU AND SEED AFRICA: traditional West African music from Niger and Ghana played on the 21-string kora.
2.11.24 – GABRIEL SANTIAGO PROJECT: virtuosic Brazilian jazz guitarist and renowned pianist/composer.
3.3.24 – MARIACHI LAS ALTEÑAS: 12-piece, all-female powerhouse mariachi from San Antonio.
4.14.24 – SOFRITO Y SU MELAO: Cuban and Caribbean hip-shaking music.
5.12.24 – OLIVER RAJAMANI: blends Indian, Flamenco, Romani and Texas music.
