July 18: Running Updates from Day 9 at Worlds Running staff reports (excerpts) from WorldLacrosse2014.com Maas Leads Germany to Ninth Place Finish Germany wrapped up a ninth place finish as goalie Philipp Maas made 11 saves in an 8-6 victory over Ireland. Ireland scored the first two goals of the game, but Germany then ripped off four straight goals and Ireland never regained the lead. Simon Giourmetakis led Germany with three goals, two of them extra man, and Wolfgang Griessl added two. Chris Mattes also came in late in the game and won four critical faceoffs down the stretch. Brian Gillis had three goals for Ireland and Tom Riley had a goal and an assist. Israel Finishes Seventh After 15-10 Win Over Japan Israel trailed Japan 5-4 at the half, but then outscored them 5-0 in the third quarter and added the first two goals of the fourth quarter to key a 15-10 win.
