About this Event

World Environment Day 2022: The World Environment Day 2022 global campaign #OnlyOneEarth calls for transformative changes to policies and choices to enable cleaner, greener, and sustainable living in harmony with nature. Focusing on the need to live sustainably in harmony with nature, and our possibilities for shifting to a greener lifestyle through both policies and individual choices. “Only One Earth” was the motto for the 1972 Stockholm Conference. 50 years on, the motto is as pertinent as ever – this planet is our only home, and humanity must safeguard its finite resources.

The year 2022 is a historic milestone for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the global environmental community. It marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of UNEP as an outcome of the Stockholm Conference. It also coincides with the high-level Stockholm+50 international meeting. These emblematic events serve as an opportunity for the international community to strengthen cooperation and show leadership in the transformation towards a more sustainable society.

Activity: GAYO Environment Movie Night

GAYO Uganda intends to organize a night of Environment Film Screening, Music, Food and Arts. The event is premised on the belief that investing in the planet does not necessarily equate to monetary resources, but it also includes creating inspiration for change, building synergies, and providing a cause for hope. This night is intended to help participants come to a deeper understanding of the influence of the environment and climate change through media lens (movie). They will learn to identify messages and attitudes in film, whether subtle or obvious and discern whether they align with the current impacts of climate change in Uganda.

Event Photos

Target audience: Environmental enthusiasts, Students, journalists, climate activists among others.

Movies to be screened:

1. Weather Control: Human interference with the environment has led us to the brink of an extinction-level crisis, climate change. Is the solution to interfere less with the environment or to learn how to completely control the environment?

Weather Control is a Debate Over Geo-Engineering” - a Suppressed Science documentary.

2. Enturire: Among the people of Kabale district, commonly known as ‘Bakiga’, the first thing you give a visitor in your home is “Enturire”, a mouth-watering local drink/brew made from sorghum and honey. Slowly, this drink is phasing out not because Bakiga people are no longer hospitable, but because the beloved crop of Kabale (Sorghum) is no longer a great yield as it once was.

Today, Climate Change is threatening sorghum - the third most important staple cereal food crop in Uganda and number one in the Kabale District.

Please note: A light snack and drink will be provided on the house.
