The Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium of South Australia hosts the World Environment Day event to encourage South Australian Primary School students to engage with the environment and issues currently impacting the globe on this day. It enables students to connect lessons taught in schools with real world issues, solutions & practices. The fun-filled day raises awareness and educates young South Australians on global and local issues relating to the environment, and action we can all take to address them.

World Environment Day is the United Nations’ most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment.

The theme of the event in 2023 is #BeatPlasticPollution
