The World Anthropological Union (WAU) Congress 2024 is scheduled to take place from November 11th to 15th in Johannesburg, South Africa. The theme for this year’s congress is “Reimagining Anthropological Knowledge: Perspectives, Practices, and Power.” This theme encourages discussions on how anthropological knowledge is constructed, transmitted, and utilized, focusing on the power dynamics involved in these processes. The Congress will feature a variety of sessions, including panel discussions, roundtables, film screenings, and art installations. Both in-person and hybrid participation options are available. The event will also accommodate presentations in multiple languages, reflecting the linguistic diversity of Africa.
For those interested in contributing, the deadlines for submitting panel proposals, papers, and other forms of participation are spread across the first half of 2024. The event aims to gather scholars from across the world to engage with critical issues in anthropology, particularly in relation to decoloniality, digital worlds, and post-COVID practices.
