On 28 and 29 June there is a shakuhachi workshop with Riley Lee in Stuttgart, Germany.Riley will be supported by the German KSK teachers, which are Nina Haarer, Alexandra Kraus and Markus Guhe. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to study intensively with four teachers from the Kokusai Shakuhachi Kenshukan (KSK).
This year the workshop has the theme “animals”. The group lessons include the following traditional and modern pieces:
Azuma Jishi / The Lion of Azuma (Honkyoku)
Hokyō Kokū / Phoenix Crying in the Empty Sky (Honkyoku)
Ryūmei Chō / Song of the Dragon (Honkyoku)
Miyama Higurashi / Deep Night Cicada (Rando Fukuda)
Ganjō Kokū / Geese Singing in the Empty Sky (Riley Lee)
Additional pieces, including for beginners, will also be taught. The workshop is suitable for both advanced players and beginners.
Sheet music and recordings of the pieces will be provided in advance.
The lessons will be in English and German. Participants must bring a shakuhachi with a length of 1.8 shaku (pitch D).
The participation fee is €110 / €90 (unemployed/students)
On the evening of 28 June at 7:30 pm there will also be a public concert by the teachers entitled “Animals in the Shakuhachi (Honkyoku) Repertoire” in the church (right next to the community center). Admission to the concert is free.
It is possible to book individual lessons with one of the teachers on the morning of 28 June 2024, before the main workshop begins. Please let us know if you would like a private lesson.
