We are coming with our next workshop with Rafael Baère. Rafael founded the group "Forró nas alturas" dedicated exclusively to forró with two other friends at the age of 18. He also participated in the group "Forró do Rio". He took part as a dance teacher in several festivals around Europe, and he gave workshops in over 70 countries.The workshop will take place on Saturday, 04th December. There will be 3 sessions in the workshop:
Session 1) Displacement with simple elements and musical orientation:
We will learn to use simple structures of the forró in order to be able to displace around the dance floor in different directions and in different paces.
Session 2) Work your feet:
Footwork is all about fast legs. Here we will do some drills to develop faster legs and be able to do some fast footwork.
Session 3) Musicality:
Music can be counted, felt, interpreted, and much more. In this lesson, we will have an introduction to the various ways of listening to the same thing.

About Rafael Baère:
Rafael Baère was born in Rio de Janeiro and started dancing at the age of 8. He started with breakdance, classical ballet, and contemporary dance, until he encountered ballroom dancing at the age of 17 through his great master Maria Antonieta. He has also taken many courses at important dance schools like Deborah Colker and Angel Vianna.
His first contact with forró was at the age of 16, and since then, he has dived deeper into the embrace dances. Living in different cultures and practicing many different dances have helped him develop a very eclectic way of dancing. He incorporates different body and dance techniques to make a dynamic, fluid, and stable dance.
At the age of 18, he founded, together with two other friends, the group "Forró nas alturas" dedicated exclusively to forró. He also participated in the group "Forró do Rio".
Rafael took part as a dance teacher in several festivals around Europe like Ai que bom, Forró Festival Freiburg, Alegria do Norte Stockholm, Copenhague Festival, Psiu forró Festival Berlin, Forrómania, Encontro de Forrozeiros in Weggis and he gave workshops in over 70 countries.
He currently travels twice a year, once to Asia and Oceania and once to USA and Canadá, and gives workshops, private classes, performing and djing. In Brasil, he gives workshops once a year in São Paulo, Salvador, and Resende.
Seeking complementary studies alongside his work as a teacher, he studied Alexander Technique, Rolfing, Feldenkrais, Franklin Method and dove deep into books about the history of dance, anatomy for dancers, biomechanics and he took advantage of his knowledge of martial arts to build singular classes which aim to use body movements in the healthiest way possible.
In addition, he developed the "Smooth flight method", a way he created to teach embrace dances, above all forró. Through this method, he aims to express all his knowledge and experience with embrace dances in order to provide a silent but powerful, light but dynamic dance for the students.
Nowadays, he runs his own project called "Just Dance Forró Festival", which has branches in New York, Sydney, Basel, and Freiburg. Just Dance is a festival focused on presenting Forró in all its forms and possibilities. It has already been reviewed as one of the best Forró Festivals in Europe.
