About this Event

No Sleep Dance Theatre (NS) seamlessly blend contemporary dance, partner acrobatics and storytelling to create comedic and energetic performances. Created in 2019, NS is the brainchild of Dylan Davies and Jules Young, whose mutual fascination with story, dance and theatre lead to their first creation, Mighty Nighty, a love letter to nights out and the nonsense that accompanies them. Since then, NS have honed their skills to create a series of cross-disciplinary works that amuse and entertain all ages, each more physical and character-driven than the last.

Performer and creator Dylan Davies is a dancer who fuses contemporary dance with breaking and acrobatics. Dylan is interested in communicating stories through physical expression in person and on film. Dylan is a graduate from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and has been working with MotionHouse for the past 2 years.

Jules Young is a dancer, technician and director, working across theatre, dance, lighting and circus, constantly looking for new formats with which to tell stories. He is a graduate of the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and has performed with VERVE, Toussaint To Move, Kitsch ‘N’ Sync and many others.

The Workshop

The day will begin with a morning class consisting of floorwork, soft acrobatic foundations and a juicy phrase. After class, we will dive into a session on developing contact partnering skills, building towards learning repertoire from our most recent show, 2 men in a lift. In the afternoon, we will work on devising techniques and games-based improvisation. We will explore a core pillar of NS’ work, character creation, and how it affects the existing movement.

This workshop is suitable for professional dancers and those in training, an interest and experience in floorwork and partnerwork is advised.
