(*This workshop will be led in English in presence of a supportive "translator". It is necessary that you understand fluent English to participate in this workshop.)
This three days long workshop will be led by four (2 local and 2 international) dance artists who will share with you their specific approaches and practice in instant dance making - making dance and choreography in the context of improvisation and instant composition.

This workshop may be a bodily experience of sound, our bodies, being cradled and moved by music, encounter each other through deep listening in time and space. The vibrating body-mind-soul instruments articulate our ever so individual and unique movement language, porous and sensuous in its experience. Forming physical and sonic landscapes in real time compositions. Being and taking action in a shared eclipse of time.
BIO:
Gianna Grünig is a dancer and choreographer, home in dance, Berlin, Paris and Bern. After her studies, 2005-2010, at the Conservatory in Paris (CNSMDP), Instant Composition became the focal point in her continuous studies (Julyen Hamilton, Maya M. Carroll et al) and work. With her platform through nature, she initiates and co-creates collaborations with dancers and musicians, often in temporary spaces that carry history and mystery. The latest collaboration, UNDA, with Bettina Neuhaus and Julian Sartorius, has been performed in a former carpenter’s workshop and in a water-gas-division building. She also works as a dancer for the Company Sabine Hausherr, that moves between dance and visual arts. Gianna teaches Instant Composition, Composition and Ballet at akar Studio in Bern. Textualizing The Dance

In this workshop, we'll enlarge the judgement processes of making and observing in figurative:body language and literal:textual language. It encourages us to handle our misunderstandings and incomprehension of ‘I actually have no idea what this person is doing’ as a condition for observing. While observing others, our writing will be enhanced by capturing personal experiences, broadening imagination, and uncovering infinite layers of invisibility.

BIO:
Yeonji Han is an independent dancer and choreographer, based in Seoul and Basel. Her work is anchored in an attempt to expand or blur the space of boundaries, misunderstanding, and incomprehension. Her primary tools are improvised choreography and twisted, tactile observation. A key modality in her research is the question of sustainability surrounding attention, as a proposition activated in the act of dancing. She explores spaces that can transform as theatres and frames that can convey performances. Yeonji attempts to forge transdisciplinary connections and exchanges, as well as stimulation and awareness, surrounded by physicality. To materialise the multiple layers of the immateriality of her dance work, she occasionally creates handmade books and letters.

„Moving attention in instant composition“

During the four-hour workshop we will focus on a clear work with body, voice/word/speech and attention. The attention of the performer, viewer and choreographer in one body. All will lead to creating improvised group compositions and how to watch them. In our work, we draw from our experience and findings we acquired during our three-year research „Improvisation as choreographic, authorial and creative principle“ in which we encountered various approaches to the discipline of instant composition with internationally well-known legends of this form.
BIO:
Mish Rais
Is a Czech performer, dramaturg, pedagogue and researcher. Since 2014, she is mostly involved in her authorial projects (with her company Partial Uncertainty) in which she explores participation of the viewers in the performance and how to look at ordinary things extraordinarily. She cooperates with various Czech and foreign artists, companies and festivals in different roles (i.e. CreWcollective, Eli a kol, Julyen Hamilton and others). She took part in various foreign workshops and artistic cooperations. As a researcher, teacher and performer, she examines the phenomenon of instant composition and cultivation of the psychosomatic performer´s and viewer´s condition. Since 2015, she works as a pedagogue at Theatre Faculty of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where she teaches movement disciplines, speech and interpretation seminar and leads Authorial Acting BA/MA Program in English. Mirka Eliášová
Is a Czech choreographer, dance teacher and performer. She is a graduate of the Master’s and Doctoral Programme of Choreography at the Department of Dance at the Academy of Performing Arts, where she currently teaches. She also teaches children and non-professional dancers of all ages at the Elementary Art School Klapkova in Prague and organises educational and popularisation workshops. Since 2008, she has been collaborating with the Berg Orchestra on site-specific performances of live music by contemporary composers. She is a founder of the Eli and col. company and the recipient of several awards (e.g. Prix de Intellect prize of the CTP 2000). She has a long-standing interest in the use of the principles of improvisation in contemporary dance and instant composition. Email: [email protected]
