WORKSHOP: The Potential of Multilingualism within the Performing Arts
This workshop led by Vanja Hamidi Isacson (playwright), and David Kozma (theatre director), together with actors Yuko Takeda (FI) and Luthando Jamda (SWE) is part of the collaborative project titled "TYSTNAD/HILJAISUUS/SILENCE" which explores the potential of Multilingualism within the Performing Arts.
In collaboration with Teater Aros we are holding a three-day workshop at Teater Aros, Uppsala on May 10-12. The themes of the workshop are multilingualism and silence. We will explore these themes through association exercises, improvisations and conversations.
We are looking for multilingual actors to take part in this workshop. There are 10 spots available and the places will be filled based on linguistic diversity of the participants.

Note: The participation is free and is not remunerated.
The project
The project explores the theme of silence, focusing on its social dynamics, including both voluntary and imposed silence, as well as its role in oppression and resistance. It examines silence at individual, group, and societal levels, particularly in the context of multilingualism. The project aims to challenge dominant language ideologies and promote linguistic and cultural diversity, especially in Finland and Sweden, through a performance titled "TYSTNAD/HILJAISUUS/SILENCE". This performance will incorporate immigrant and minority languages, emphasizing the multilingual experience and addressing issues of integration, citizenship, and language policies. The project involves workshops, script development, and rehearsals, culminating in performances in Helsinki and Sweden. The goal is to amplify multilingual voices on stage, highlighting their importance in society and countering racist and nationalistic discourse.
Dates: Friday 10 - Sunday 12th of May.
Working hours: 10-15.
Location: Teater Aros, Uppsala.
Registration: [email protected] Please send your Bio (including languages spoken) and short motivation no later than May 9. We process applications on a rolling basis and respond within one week.
