What about the instructor and the workshop?
In many ways improv, as well as life, is an extensive group project. This class will focus on what is needed to benefit the entire group while maintaining individual style and passion. This class takes a moment to breathe and lets students focus on each other and the riveting potential of silence in a scene as well as creating sound effects that are dynamic and interesting to the audience. Students will develop an understanding of the format The Bat and learn what they can provide to the creative play of the group as a whole.
Price: 60€

The Bat Improv Format
Performed in Darkness: The defining feature of "The Bat" is that the performance takes place in complete darkness. This absence of visual stimuli forces both the performers and the audience to focus entirely on the auditory elements of the performance.
Audio-Centric: Emphasis is placed on dialogue, sound effects, and vocal expressions. Performers rely heavily on their voices to create scenes, characters, and environments.

Bio
Tim Hearn began his career performing with Noun Improv at Appalachian State, graduating with a bachelor’s in Theater Education and began teaching in the Asheville area shortly after. Tim developed summer programs for Flatrock Playhouse’s Studio 52 and instructed adult workshops and classes throughout North Carolina with Queen City Comedy and Asheville Improv Collective all while teaching middle school theater. After the pandemic Tim began his company Speakeasy Improv in Asheville, NC. He currently runs his improv school and performs with the troupe, Now Are the Foxes, in Charlotte NC, the improv duo, Brothers Grimmprov (plus a podcast with the same name inspired by the BAT format), with his brother, and in his own one-man show, One-Sided.
Tim’s approach to both the arts as well as the craft of teaching prioritizes the process of play over the final result. He implements the rules of improv as a philosophy for living and as an indispensable tool for performance.
