You may have heard a yoga teacher say 'we carry a lot of stress in our hips', and you may have experienced this in your own body!

In the same way that many of us unconsciously clench our jaws when we are angry, many of us engage the muscles in the front of our hips as part of an unconscious fight, flight or freeze response in the face of fear or distress. Our bodies are preparing to engage, run or bring the knees up to the chest in a fetal position to protect our torso. For most of us, busy, stressful lives combined with long periods of sitting, or (on a good day) repetitive exercising like cycling or running, leaves us with tight hip flexors and tight (sometimes weak) glutes.
Join Ayesha for this workshop to explore hip strength and flexibility in your own body. Identify which muscles are tight and weak, strong and flexible, and better understand what you need to do to create balance in the muscles around your hip joints. We will work through a series of postures to explore hip mobility in our own bodies before breaking down some more complex variations of pigeon pose and then moving on to some advanced hip opening postures including an exploration of movement leading to yoginidrasana (legs behind the head) pose.
This workshop is suitable for everyone, variations of all postures will be provided.
