This workshop explores the practical and philosophical aspects of using chance procedures to develop choreographic material. Participants are introduced to Merce Cunningham's use of chance operations as a choreographic tool, then guided to experiment with chance themselves. The session includes learning excerpts of Merce Cunningham’s choreography. At the conclusion of the session, participants will be invited to reflect on the impact of this approach on their own creative process. This session is open to all registrants but geared to the abilities of serious dancers at the college level and beyond. Registration is FREE for Nasher Members and students; $10 for non-members (includes museum admission). In-person and open to the public. Advance registration required (limited spaces available).
