About this Event

Join us at 6WS to (belatedly) celebrate World Cyanotype Day - World Cyanotype weekend? - and make your own cyanotypes, inspired by the natural world.

Likely the last opportunity to teach cyanotypes using natural light (alongside a UV light for faster exposures) before winter sets in! This session is designed to be a friendly and informal introduction to this beautiful process. There will be plenty of space for questions and experimentation, and no previous experience is necessary. Perfect for anyone with an interest in nature and printmaking!
At the end of the session you will have 5 finished cyanotype prints that you’ve made, as well as 5 sheets of coated paper to take away with you for further experiments.
In the session we will:
- Learn how to coat paper with cyanotype chemistry, ready for exposure
- Create cyanotype prints from plants in the garden (without destroying them)!
- Have a tea break, refreshments provided
- Experiment with wet cyanotypes and learn about toning
- Learn more about the history of cyanotypes and Anna Atkins, a pioneer of the process
Zoe Hamill is a photographer from Co. Antrim, now living in Edinburgh. She is interested in the relationship between humans and the environment, as well as the systems of classification that we use to make sense of the world around us.
