Workshop: Identity and Change-Making: Black, Brown, and Queer Experiences in the Nordics. By Nana Osei-Kofi, PhD (she/her)This workshop is designed for Black, Brown, and Queer researchers, artists, and community activists—or those who work closely with these communities. Participants will explore the challenges and nuances of navigating environments that are predominantly cisgender, heteronormative, and white, examining how their identities and experiences shape their work and influence. Through an engagement with topics such as embodied knowing, epistemic privilege, and change-making, along with interactive, participatory activities, this workshop offers a space for self-reflection and dialogue. Participants will gain insights and strategies to help navigate environments that both challenge and inspire.

Nana Osei-Kofi, Ph.D. (she/her), originally from Gothenburg, Sweden, is Professor Emerita of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies in the School of Language, Culture, and Society at Oregon State University. Her research centers on two primary lines of inquiry focused on justice and the politics of difference. One line examines structural shifts in higher education to promote equity and access, emphasizing curriculum transformation, change leadership, and faculty recruitment, retention, and development. The second line explores the experiences and conditions faced by people of African descent in Europe, with a focus on Sweden. Her most recent publication, AfroSwedish Places of Belonging, was published by Northwestern University Press earlier this year as part of their Critical Insurgencies series.
