Whether it’s a family history, a travel memoir or your autobiography, book-publishing is within everyone’s reach. While this workshop can’t help you actually write your book, it can help with advice about bringing such a project to fruition: publishing your own book and getting it into bookstores and on Amazon.Recent radical changes in the publishing industry have made self-publishing an attractive and surprisingly affordable alternative to using a traditional publisher, without the old stigma of vanity publishing.
In this informal workshop, Andrew Benfield, writer, adventurer and former diplomat, will give a practical, step-by-step guide on how to self-publish. His insights are based on first-hand experience in publishing his book, “The Wrong Way Round: How Not to Travel to Burma by Motorcycle”. This session will include:
- An overview on how the publishing industry has changed in recent years and tricks and tips to navigate the world of self-publishing
- A practical, step-by-step guide to self-publishing in practice (including: editing, proof reading, layout, cover design, and pricing)
- Getting your finished product in bookstores and on Amazon
- Marketing & celebrity endorsement
- Managing sales and reviews
- Questions & answers
For those who already have a book planned or a manuscript in the works, there will also be the opportunity to present a short synopsis and get feedback from other participants.
Coffee, tea and biscuits included
Participants are welcome to bring their manuscripts for feedback and ideas.
