This brief introductory workshop will help both individual artists and organisations improve their success rate in securing grant income. The session will be led by Isabel White, who has nearly 40 years’ experience, raising over £26m from trusts and foundations, the lottery and statutory sources, working with over 220 clients. This is a taster session for Isabel’s longer, four session course, looking at:
Where the money is and why it seems to be getting harder to find; what motivates funders and what they look for when investing in you; why you need to take the long view; devoting as much time to raising money as you do to spending it; basic fundraising principles and why they matter; answering three basic questions – 1. What do you want money for? 2. How much do you want? 3. Where will you get it?; creating a robust and compelling case; using (and misusing) data to support your pitch; unpicking core and project costs; finding the shortest route to your fundraising target; how to create a prioritised funding list and reduce your workload; decoding the funders’ criteria; building relationships with funders; pitfalls to be avoided (how not to be a nuisance …) with myriad examples from personal experience.
Copies of Isabel’s 120 page book – Get That Grant! will be available at a reduced price of £10 to those attending this workshop. Those interested in booking on Isabel’s next fundraising course (four 90 minute sessions plus Q&A) will also be offered a discounted rate.
There will be some time for a brief Q&A afterwards.
