Irpin Reconstruction Summit an example of Sustainable Community Resilience for Ukrainian Rebirth
About this Event

The “Irpin Reconstruction Summit” was born with the idea of a smart and sustainable reconstruction of Irpin. Irpin, located near Kyiv, has been designated as a heroic city and it was destroyed for 76% due to the Russian military invasion and active hostilities in the community.

After the expulsion of the Russian army from the capital region, volunteers and activists united in April 2022 with the aim of an intelligent reconstruction of the city.

The Irpin Reconstruction Summit has been the first event in Ukraine during the Russian war against Ukraine organized by volunteers and aimed at the systematic sustainable reconstruction of Ukrainian cities. Specialists in various fields (200 participants) organized themselves into groups to develop sustainable solutions for rebuilding the important social infrastructure of cities in partnership with international institutions. Among them, there are specialists from various fields: certificated project managers, designers, representatives of different NGO and local authorities, architects from all over the world. Volunteers interact under the patronage of the city of Irpin. The project is also supported by the Irpin Investment Council, which is an advisory board to the Irpin City Council, and carried together with a number of international companies and organizations.

In order to rebuild 76% of the destroyed city of Irpin, due to the Russian military invasion and active hostilities in the community, participants are planning a new strategy for the development of the city and working on opportunities to rebuild the destroyed infrastructure.

The idea is to follow the sustainable guidelines provided by the main international bodies (LEED, EU Standard etc...) in order to “build back better” and therefore be able to achieve a low-carbon-emissions and circular reconstruction in line with the EU green deal and attract investments accountable for EU standard and international funds.
