Workshop by Valentin Gilbert: Quantum Benchmark Zoo initiative

Abstract:

It is crucial to assess the utility of quantum computers to evaluate their potential to bring computational advantage for near and long-term business decisions. While several companies developing or using quantum chips claim that the quantum utility era will begin very soon (or has already begun), others remain more cautious about the near-term potential of quantum computers, waiting for the fault-tolerance era to develop useful applications.

This talk will explore high-level approaches to benchmarking quantum computers, emphasizing the major challenges in evaluating their performance. This talk will give a quick overview of the community's adoption of benchmarking methods, then take a closer look at one of the most widely used figures of merit in the literature: the quantum gate fidelity. The QuantumBenchmarkZoo initiative will be presented to conclude this talk.
