Join us for a nature club birding workshop in Crescent Drive Park with The Delta Marsh Bird Observatory. We will wander the trails looking for birds and chat about migration and how songbird banding can shed light on the mysteries of migration.
All bodies and all levels of experience are welcome in this loving and inclusive space.
How to get there:
We will meet at site 3 of Crescent Drive Park.
How to find us:
Drive along Crescent Drive through the park.
Towards the middle, you will see a large parking lot on the west side of the street, park there.
Then you will see a green tent beside the parking lot, that's us!
Parking & Amenities:
Accessible bathrooms available
Large accessible parking lot
Dogs are allowed in the park, however, they are not recommended for the event, as it can be distracting for other participants.
What to Bring to the Event
We recommend wearing comfortable, closed-toe shoes and long pants as we will be walking around our site.
Check the weather forecast and dress appropriately! Pack a hat if it’s sunny, a raincoat if it’s going to get wet, and a sweater or jacket if it’s going to be windy or cold. Dress in layers so you can cool off or warm up as needed.

About CPAWS Manitoba:
CPAWS Manitoba has been instrumental in establishing 23 new parks and protected areas in our province. That's an area larger than Lake Winnipeg at nearly 26,000 square kilometres. Our goal is to protect half of Manitoba’s lands and waters.
About the Host:
The Delta Marsh Bird Observatory is a charitable organization that is primarily a volunteer-run organization. The community contributes to the citizen science database by participating in bird banding and bird observations.

Delta Marsh Bird Observatory (DMBO) has operated bird banding and related monitoring in Manitoba since 1992. DMBO is the only Manitoba-based station in the Canadian Migration Monitoring Network. We are an important contributor of regional data to national and international databases. DMBO monitors songbird population in Manitoba by using daily surveys and bird banding (mist netting) during migration. We have banded more than 50,000 songbirds of over 100 species. For our first 20 years, we banded along the ridge at Delta Marsh. In 2011, flooding and habitat loss forced us to find a new home. We are currently located in the Oak Hammock Marsh Wildlife Management Area.

About the CPAWS Manitoba Nature Club
CPAWS Manitoba’s Nature Club is designed to help Manitobans get outside, make new friends and learn about the wonders of nature.
We’ve developed a wide range of programming and activities to help Manitobans of all ages and abilities enjoy the health and wellness benefits of nature.
Find out more at our website - www.cpawsmb.org - and be sure to subscribe to our events newsletter and follow us on Facebook, Instagram, X, and TikTok so you don’t miss out on upcoming events.
Safety Protocols
CPAWS Manitoba takes the safety of all program participants seriously.
All CPAWS Manitoba staff members have cleared a criminal record and vulnerable sector background check with the Winnipeg Police Department. We adhere to all public health recommendations and guidelines.
CPAWS policy requires that at least one person leading programming that may involve children must be certified in first aid. This applies to staff or to volunteers.
Weather & Cancellation Policy
We try not to let the weather stop us from getting outside. With the right gear, you can have a great time in most weather conditions.
That being said, safety must always be our top priority. We can’t be outside in a thunderstorm and may need to cancel if roads are hazardous.
Weather forecasts are notoriously unreliable. While we will do our best to monitor and make good judgment calls, there will be times when we decide to cancel and the skies clear and other days when a storm or high winds pop up unexpectedly.
We’ll send out an e-mail alert the day before an event letting registrants know if there’s a good chance we need to cancel. We will check the forecast again a few hours before the event to determine if we can try to go ahead.
