=======
We all have a history of loss. Loss is inherent to the many transitions of childhood. For example, when our parents separate or one parent dies, we may lose the future we dreamt of having with them. When our family pet dies, we may lose a virtual sibling or a magical being who knew all our secrets. When our family moves to a new house our country, we may lose the fabric and structure of our world. Things get more complicated if we have a history of significantly stressful events or trauma. Such events may have resulted in us losing our childhood, adolescence, innocence, freedom, and our ability to choose freely. As we start growing older, we start losing more and more of our loved ones, our vitality, our physical and/or mental health, our roles as parents, caregivers, or professionals.
Loss or separation from significant others or salient aspects of our life is an unavoidable recurring life event to which we adapt by grieving.
Typically accompanied by shock, non-acceptance, guilt, shame, hopelessness, isolation, problematic (or absent) social support, depression, and stuckness, grief never feels simple. However, there is grief that runs its natural course without obstacles and there is grief that is made complicated by unresolved prior loss (e.g., multiple miscarriages of unannounced pregnancies or a childhood loss that parents never allowed to be grieved for fear of it being shamed) or by the traumatic nature of the loss (e.g., the brutal or sudden death of a loved one). Complicated grief can manifest as delayed, absent or even chronic grief.
As a society we still misunderstand grief. We tend to want to fix things. We want things to get better. But grief cannot be fixed. It needs to be felt, understood, and lived. Hard as it may be, if we allow ourselves to safely jump in and out of it, we can eventually learn how to live peacefully with it as we restore our balance, and create new experiences.
This retreat will shed light on how we can make this possible.
WHAT TO EXPECT OF THIS 6-HOUR RETREAT?
In a safe, relaxing and non-judgmental space within our meditation hall, which overlooks our tranquil pool and garden, you will be treated to a carefully curated and varied programme that will offer compassionate companionship for you and your grief. It will include:
• Interactive and informal discussions firmly grounded in neuroscience, extensive psychological knowledge, and the most cutting-edge therapeutic modalities;
• Exploration of effective strategies and practical tools to understand, process and manage your grief and any accompanying emotions, with a focus on long-term impact;
• Guided meditation practices to cultivate a deeper understanding of yourself and your inner world as you navigate your experience of grief;
• Gentle guided movements to promote flow in mind and body and help you get unstuck;
• Optional sharing of experiences, perspectives, and insights with fellow retreatants;
• Time for personal reflection to integrate the insights gained during the retreat;
• Time to enjoy a cup of coffee/tea and some healthy snacks, mingle with other retreatants, and/or take a solo stroll in our garden;
• Opportunities to ask questions to seek clarity and guidance on anything related to the retreat.

REGISTRATION
This retreat is being offered to 10 participants only.
At the time of preparing this write up, 3 places were already taken. The remaining spots are likely to be taken fast as this is an enhanced repeat retreat being offered specifically because of the long waiting list which was created when we offered the first one in September.
For more information or to book your place, please PM Janet or send her an email, in full confidence, at [email protected].
Booking closes on Saturday, 30th November at midnight (Malta time) or as soon as all places are taken.
Please book your place early to avoid disappointment. The previous one (of last September, was fully booked weeks before its date).
WHO IS THE RETREAT FOR?
This retreat is suitable for anyone with experiences of separation, loss and grief that are stopping them from living the life they want to live. No prior experience in retreats or meditation is required.
