Supporting Someone Who Discloses Sexual Assault
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Sojourner House believes that everyone deserves to be supported, believed and empowered as they navigate life after abuse. Learn about the dynamics of sexual violence, but more importantly how to support survivors in your life.
Objectives:
Participants will understand the resources available within Sojourner House for male-identified survivors
Participants will understand the complex dynamics and intersections of masculinity, gender, and cultural identities with sexual assault victimization
Participants will be provided talking points on how to have conversations that are supportive to male-identified survivors
Presenter Bios:
Edgard Barroso
Caely Flynn (she/her) is Sojourner House’s Sexual Violence Program Coordinator. Her job touches upon anything related to sexual violence response and prevention.. She transitioned from the world of teaching into victims services, while still being able to use her skills from the former. Caely received her bachelor’s degree at the University of Connecticut, where she first worked in sexual violence prevention. After navigating various worlds of nonprofits, Caely transitioned back home to Rhode Island where she obtained her teaching degree. Her current role covers things from coordinating our HIV testing program, to instructing police on all matters regarding interpersonal violence.
