This is day one of a 2-day course. This will cover theory and day-2 will cover practical elements of working with lime.
About this Event

This is day one of a 2-day course in working with Lime in old buildings. Day one covers theory and includes a site visit to the amazing Penrhos Cottage which is a Ty Un Nos that has been preserved as a museum. Day two will be a practical course in the use of lime and can be booked separately.

Day 1: Understanding Materials and Construction Methods

AM- Classroom based:

  • Introduction to Heritage Buildings
  • Materials in Heritage Buildings
  • Traditional Construction Methods
  • Maintenance Strategies

PM- Site visit/ case study:

  • Site Visit to Penrhos Cottage
  • Analysis of materials and construction methods.
  • Discussion on the challenges and solutions in heritage conservation.


Practicalities:

Parking: is available at the venue and a small charge is required as this is a public car park.

Refreshments: Teas and coffees will be provided but participants are expected to bring their own lunch.

The session is being run by heritage building experts from the Tywi Centre on behalf of Pembrokeshire County Council's Heart of Pembrokeshire Project and supported by UK Government funding.

The Tywi Centre has been delivering heritage construction training throughout Wales since 2009. Over the last decade the Tywi Centre has built a reputation for delivering high quality, engaging training by experts with extensive knowledge in their field of heritage construction.

the Heart of Pembrokeshire project is redeveloping Haverfordwest Castle to become a bustling heritage-based discovery centre attracting a footfall of 40,000 annual visitors. As part of the project the team are engaging with local residents and organisations to help develop the vision, direction and content of the attraction.
