WORKING WITH DIVERSE LEARNERS - ADHD (secondary)

Do you want to understand the needs of the student with ADHD (and ADD), and how to provide an inclusive learning environment where they can flourish and succeed in your subject area, or pastoral focus group?
You are most certainly not alone. Graduate and experienced teachers alike are telling us how, with increasing frequency that they feel overwhelmed and under supported. There are limited resources that they can access to use in their classroom and everything they have tried so far has had limited success.
This does not need to be you.
We understand exactly what this feels like. We have worked with students who have an Attention Deficit Hyperactivity diagnosis, or who present with similar behaviours. We have developed a toolbox of strategies and techniques that work in the classroom and are easy to implement. We understand the different ways these students learn and we have successfully engaged them in our classes, and seen them succeed in our subjects and with their peers. We know the amazing and unique skill set a focused student with ADHD / ADD can bring to your classroom.
If we can understand, manage and successfully engage the student with ADHD / ADD, we know you can too.
In this workshop you will:
- Understand the neurodiverse brain and the constraints and strengths for the student, including ADHD and ADD
- Learn and explore specific strategies and techniques to manage the student with ADHD / ADD, while preserving and promoting self worth
- Develop curriculum specific activities to support students with ADHD / ADD within your classroom
- Explore the range of strengths students with ADHD / ADD may have and develop strategies to promote these
Not only that, you will also
- Discuss the range of challenges faced by these students and develop a plan to provide an inclusive, engaging and supportive classroom for them
- Meet and network with other colleagues and discuss and share professional knowledge and expertise.
This workshop is designed for secondary teachers across all faculties who may have a student with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD / ADD), or present with similar behaviours. Course materials and content have been developed with this audience in mind. Colleagues from other sectors are welcome to attend this course if they want to develop a skill set in a different context.
