Join us for an engaging 5-week workshop to learn about how to holistically work with Autistic children. Participants will be encouraged to discuss and reflect on their personal experiences with children on the Autism Spectrum at kindergarten and early primary school level. You will learn about:
1. Structuring Environments
a. How ‘structuring environments’ for children with Autism can maximise their potential to learn, participate, and move towards greater independence.’
2. Language Development
a. What is typical language development? What do Autistic children often struggle with? How does this impact their behaviour at school?
3. Functional Play Development
a. What is typical and atypical play skill development in children from 0 to 5 years old? How can delays impact a child's overall development?
4. Social Play Development
a. How to support kids with ASD in social interaction through play! Discover the 6 stages of typical social play development, from solitary to cooperative play.
5. Sensory Preferences and Needs
a. What are the sensory systems? How do sensory preferences affect our ability to participate in daily activities? What are tools and tips to support sensory needs?

Corry Skilbeck (B.Ed. G.D.S.E)
Corry has nearly thirty years experience working in a range of Special Education Settings. She spent four years as Consultant Teacher for Children with Autism in regular schools for the Eastern Region Education Department. After retiring, she was involved in training teacher’s aides.
Speech and Language Development - 5 September
Brittany A. Fong (B.A.Ling, M.SP, Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist)
A multilingual speech pathologist who graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2022. She is passionate about working with Autistic children and teenagers. She is a regular volunteer at the Forest Hill Community Space and enjoys being involved in the community.
Play Skill Development - 12 September
Joy Ying Huang (B.Ed., M. Child Play Therapy. Registered Play Therapist)
Joy is sincerely passionate about working with children and their families to support children’s development, especially play ability, social and emotional wellbeing. Joy has experience in working with children with developmental delays, Autism and their families, as well as providing play therapy in Early Childhood Early Intervention.
Learning and Social Play - 19 September
Christal Lau (M.Child Play Therapy, MSocSc (Criminology), MA (Psy))
Being a mum of two beautiful souls, one of whom with a diagnosis of Autism, Christal is passionate about working with Autistic children, and sharing her own parenting experiences and supporting families with similar needs. Christal is currently preparing a PhD proposal aiming to validate play skills for the Asian community.
Sensory Development - 26 September
Joyce Wan (M. Occupational Therapy)
Joyce graduated from Monash University in 2020 and has since dedicated her career to working as a paediatric occupational therapist. She has worked in a variety of settings, including community health centres, child care, community settings and private paediatric clinics.
