Working with Child Sexual Abuse through a trauma informed lens

The Alders Units and Laurels Clinic are a Child Sexual Abuse service based in Children’s Health Ireland at Tallaght University Hospital and at Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown. The services provided include assessment and therapy (the Alders Units), and forensic medical examination (the Laurels Clinic). The catchment areas for the Alders Units encompass Dublin, Wicklow, Kildare, Louth, Meath, Cavan and Monaghan. The Laurels Clinic serves all of Leinster, Waterford and South Tipperary. The Units also provide training to services nationally as well as informing policy and service development in child sexual abuse trauma. The Alders Units and Laurels Clinic have a long-standing history of working closely with Tusla, An Garda Siochana, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Intergovernmental Departments, previous Special Rapporteurs on Child Protection and are currently working with the Council of Europe on the implementation of Barnahus in Ireland.

We host an annual conference that aims to bring professionals together to highlight developments, policy, research and interventions in child sexual abuse and trauma. This year our conference will be held in Dublin Castle on Friday 26 April 2024.
