About this Event
Debra Klomp Ching, owner of Klompching Gallery in New York City, will give a formal presentation, providing a candid summary of the key challenges that photographers encounter when preparing to work with a gallery—either for full representation or a one-off exhibition. This lecture will focus upon five essential tools needed – providing participants with the necessary insights to meet those challenges head-on, and ensure the gallery/artist relationship is professional, successful and profitable for all.
What Topics Will Be Covered?
- Overview of the different types of galleries and how they operate.
- Contractual obligations between the artist and the gallery.
- What galleries are looking for, how they find you, and how to introduce yourself.
- Overview of business essentials for every artist toolkit: specifically, recorod-keeping.
- Key ways in which to maintain professional relationshiops with galleries.
There will be time throughout the presentation for Q&A.
This 2–hour webinar (originally a 2-day in-person workshop) has been presented at the Filter Photo Festival (Chicago, September 2019), the FotoFest Meeting Place (Houston, March 2020) and the Summer Snow Workshops (Ephraim, June 2021). In response to popular demand, it is now being presented, annually, as an online webinar.
Why is this webinar unique and a ‘must do’?
This webinar is informed by Debra Klomp Ching’s 17+ years as a successful New York art dealer, and having worked with numerous photographers as a private consultant and advisor. Artists will leave the webinar with a clear insight of what to expect of a gallery, and what a gallery expects of the artist.
* Although the webinar has been written with the fine art photographer in mind, it is relevant and meaningful to all fine artists working in any discipline.
** The webinar will be recorded, and accessible to all attendees for 7 days following the live event.
