About this Event
Whether you are new to kiln working or wish to expand your kiln techniques, Working the Line is for you. You will be inspired and challenged in this six session introduction to strip cutting. The technique of cutting sheet glass into narrow strips (lines) and fusing vertically is widely used when a tightly controlled geometric design is desired as an element within a design or as the overall design. After a number of introductory exercises covering the basics, students will have the opportunity to explore and create their own individual small scale projects. Each student will learn how to cut strips with ease and confidence. Cold working techniques will be introduced to enhance and extend projects, including cutting pre-fused component sheets that can be incorporated in a variety of ways within individual projects. Hands on work will be complemented by a short presentation on historical and contemporary kilnformed glass.
What to Expect: Class time will alternate between demonstration and work time. Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page.
Eligibility: No experience required, however, this class is also suitable for those who have taken introductory kilnformed glass classes. Open to ages 14 and up.
Pick-up: The glass needs to cool down over several nights, so the students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work.
This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.
