About this Event
The Betty Swan Community Arboretum is a living laboratory in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood where residents, students, and treekeepers learn about and practice caring for city trees.
This inviting learning garden and classroom includes apple and crab-apple trees and is often used as a community space for neighbors to host children’s parties, take graduation photos, have a picnic lunch, and even for quiet time for reflection.
In partnership with the North Lawndale Greening Committee, Openlands, and NeighborSpace, we invite you to experience this unique space for yourself as we work together to keep it neat, tidy, and a valuable community in an area with limited access to nature.
We will be picking up litter, weeding, clearing dead vegetation, and pruning shrubs. We simply ask that you wear long pants and closed-toe shoes- and that you bring a (full) water bottle. We'll take care of the rest!
*Rain date for this event will be July 31st. Please provide a phone number with your registration so we can contact you in the event of last minute schedule changes!
