Portrait of Miss Elsie Palmer, or A Lady In White & Madame de Pompadour (née Poisson) Tea Service
The pairing of John Singer Sargent’s Portrait of Miss Elsie Palmer, or A Lady In White and Cindy Sherman’s Madame de Pompadour (née Poisson) Tea Service presents riveting portraits of female historical figures while also raising powerful questions about the act of making someone’s image. Join us as we investigate what these works express about the subjects, the artists, and how they uphold and subvert social, political, and gender conventions.
