Word Wise is a spoken word and poetry night uniting the best talent from around the UK and beyond, with Derby's finest performers. Word Wise won the 2019 Saboteur award for Best Regular Spoken Word Event in the UK.£3 Early bird tickets (plus booking fee) £5 on the door.
This month, Word Wise is running slightly different as Anna will be doing her full 1 hour show. Therefore, please note there will be limited open mic.
Anna is a Clown and other serious artsy things. She is a professional laugher and a professional faffer. She's been doing lots of things for quite a while now. Current projects include transitioning to barefoot shoes, arriving on time for things and overcoming chronic insomnia. Her debut solo show, 'The Hat of Many Hats', premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe 2024 and played in London in November. She's in the market for a producer, a PA and a decent hair style. She is a freshling of Ecole Philippe Gaulier (a fancy Clown school in France where they bang a drum if you're not funny).
About Anna's show:
"Looks like one hat – isn't. Who would wear a hat like that?" It's a solo show with a solo hat.
An absurdist fusion of clown, physical comedy and poetic storytelling that playfully teases at the insightful and the nonsensical. A discovery of the delicate dance between the desire to be seen and the urge to hide; an unravelling, or perhaps a becoming. An exposé of shame and the existential angst it brings, explored in a way that is deeply relatable and completely laughable; a quirky and heartfelt piece that will leave audiences laughing with a tear in their eye.
Berkavitch is one of the most respected voices in the UK spoken-word scene. Former UK Slam Poetry Champion, Internationally acclaimed Storyteller, accomplished Breakdancer, Digital Artist and Animator. Berkavitch has showcased his poetry at most UK music and literary festivals and at theatres and venues across the country.
He has toured poetry and spoken-word across Europe, South America and Asia as well as having pieces commissioned by theatres and companies including Apples and Snakes, The Southbank, Saddler’s Wells and Nationwide. His work has been featured on Radio 1, Radio 1Xtra and Radio 4.
Berkavitch was a featured performer on Benjamin Zephaniah’s Life and Rhymes on Sky Arts and regularly appears on Craig Charles Radio 6 Show.
