About this Event
Guest Instructor, Susan Davis, will take us through two explorations into prose allow us to uncover the essential elements of voice and narrative. While we will be working in short prose forms, our topics will be wide-ranging, and may be addressed with fiction or non-fiction.
- THE WHO AT THE CENTER OF THE STORY: Every story is embodied in a voice. Perhaps that voice is yours, or perhaps it is someone else’s, but it is always grounded in the personal passions and idiosyncrasies of a speaker or character. This session will use familiar forms that can be enhanced by paying attention to voice and perspective, spoken narrative and point of view, in particular the bio or introduction and the personal letter.(2/12)
- THE SPIRIT MOVES THROUGH SPACE: Our stories, even the ones that are memories, are grounded in where we come from, where and how we inhabit space, and the ways we connect with others, particularly through dialogue. This session will use the mini travelogue and the 5-minute play to to get at the ideas of setting and plot and how to manipulate them. (2/19)
