Step back into the tradition of handcraft. In this ongoing series, the Interpretive Ranger will guide you through woodworking projects that connect practical skills with the natural resources of Fontainebleau. From carving utensils to shaping walking sticks or trying your hand at whittling, each session highlights a different project and the timeless art of working with wood.Walking Sticks will be standard starting projects. We are continuing to learn cutting techniques and types of cuts by practicing our knife skills with the "Try Stick".
UPDATED REQUIREMENTS:
- Participants will need to provide their own knife/knives. A simple pocketknife or fixed blade will work.
- All minors must be accompanied by an adult.
- Must be at least 13 years old to participate.
*Remember that a sharp knife is a safe knife.
*If you have any personal hand tools that you have wanted to learn how to use, feel free to bring them with you.
There is no extra fee for this program. Wood has been collected from around the park and is available. All participants must follow safety instructions, or you may not participate.
