The oldest complex of colonial buildings in the Blue Mountains, Woodford Academy has a diverse history, serving as a busy Roadside Inn, the first Guesthouse in the region, a gentleman’s private mountains retreat, and a salubrious mountain resort.
All of these phases are still evident in the building’s structures, from its 1830s beginnings as the original six roomed inn, its double storied Neo-Georgian expansion and the later addition of the feted six-foot wide verandah.
As part of the October open day, Historical Archaeologist, Historian and Heritage Specialist Dr Siobhán Lavelle OAM will share her technical knowledge and experience of Blue Mountains history.
