Woodworking artist Cheri Henney will debut her new exhibition, “Wood” You Believe, at Art Source Gallery beginning Thursday, Nov. 6. Inspired by the natural features of both exotic and local woods, Henney selects each piece of lumber for its character and often waits years before the right vision emerges. Once the form is revealed, she enhances the wood’s innate qualities to uncover its hidden story, surprise or secret.Henney’s latest collection highlights that intimate, collaborative process. “Every selection in this collection has experienced a singular journey,” Henney said. “With Wood You Believe, I hope to share those journeys with all of you.”
A longtime Boise artist and educator, Henney is recognized for her innovative wood sculptures and teaching at the Boise School of Woodworking. She has been working with wood for more than 30 years. Her pieces are celebrated for highlighting the inherent character of natural materials while encouraging audiences to see wood as both canvas and collaborator.
You are invited to the First Thursday opening reception on Nov. 6 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Art Source Gallery, 1516 W. Grove St. in Boise’s Linen District. The exhibit will be on display through November.
