"My old house is made of chestnut. Right?", "How can you tell the difference between pine and hemlock, red and white oak?" "My house was on the underground railroad". After over twenty years in the preservation trades, instructor Ian Stewart, has heard thousands of questions like this. In this class he will teach tried and true methods for wood identification. Common species found in the capital region will be discussed. Feel free to bring a piece of mystery wood. The second part of the class will be dedicated to a common catalogue of old house myths that Ian has encountered over his career.
