About this Event
Daria Faïn, a New York choreographer and director, fuses her European cultural background with three decades of practice in Asian philosophies of the body, American dance training and theater. Her movement workshop, Wood Energy, focuses on the Chinese traditions of spring - renewal and re-emergence, after a year of confinement and grief. Attendees will participate in gentle movement; wear comfortable clothing.
"Although in the Chinese calendar we are already in the summer section of the year, I will be teaching about Spring and 'Wood' energy. The reason for this is because we are all coming out from the long retreat of Winter (the water element), just as the seed in the earth grows through the Spring to full fruition in Summer (the element of fire.) Spring is about renewal and the rising force that brings us into visibility. After a year of confinement and deep grief that has affected all of us, the experience of coming out together is especially powerful as we uncover what this emergence means for us as a society."
