When wonder fades, what remains?...Wonder is a visually inventive new work of mask and object theatre about imagination, loneliness, healing and letting go.
Wonder lives between two worlds: a private apartment where her everyday objects are alive, and a public reality populated by masked human figures. Her phone gossips, her bag adores her, her glasses suspect everyone; these objects are companions, protectors and emotional lifelines. But as therapy begins to pull Wonder toward change, the magical world that has sustained her starts to change.
Blending mask performance, object theatre, magical realism, dark comedy and psychological drama, Wonder asks what happens when the fantasy that once saved us is no longer sustainable. Funny, surreal and deeply moving, it invites audiences into the beauty, humour and heartbreak of outgrowing the inner worlds we build to survive.
Presented by Hagley Theatre School in collaboration with the Isaac Theatre Royal and Sahara BreeZe Productions.
