March is Women's History Month! We are mounting our 2nd Annual Women's Wit & Wisdom Theater Festival at The Ooley Theatre March 1st - 30th, 2025. [email protected]All are welcome and encouraged to participate. If you want to support the feminine voice, we are looking for you! :)
Auditions are going to be happening for the festival this coming Nov. 2nd and 3rd at The Ooley Theatre so check out our show selection and opportunities to play on stage!
Most specifically we are doing auditions Nov. 2nd 11am - 3pm and Nov. 3rd 7pm - 9pm for our first round. We have so many roles for amazing people (all genders and ethnicities welcome) and we would be thrilled if you are interested in joining us on this adventure. Because we have such a wide variety of pieces to audition for, we are going to ask you to simply prepare a monologue for us and we will then offer you a role. We have 9 directors involved so far who will be sitting in on auditions either in person or via zoom or will watch a recording.

You can also fill out our form at:

You can let us know if you have a preference for a 10 minute piece or consideration for a full length piece. We have 4 full length shows to be considered for at this time, 2 original works and 2 published pieces.
Full length pieces will start rehearsals in December (working around the holidays of course) and shows will run in rep for the month of March starting Saturday March 1st and going through Sunday March 30th (5, weekends,4 full weeks). They will run Wednesday through Sunday each week of the festival.
We are working on the schedule but plan for any piece to be up twice each week of the festival if not 3 times each week. :)
Here is the current list of breakdowns for the shows:
PLAYS:
ORIGINAL WORKS:
ROWING UP SALT RIVER - by Candace Adams
The story of a stage coach driver in the 1870s who has everything to hide and an intrepid female reporter out for the truth.
This will be workshopped as we go, as it is ready to be put on its feet and the writer will be making revisions where necessary as we work it out!
SARAH - 20s - any ethnicity - feminine presenting or female investigative reporter
CHARLEY - 50s/60s - any ethnicity - a woman who has lived as a man most of her life and presents in all ways as a man to the outside world - we will consider women, trans and non-binary for this role
YOUNG CHARLEY - 20s/30s a version of Charley when they were first starting out as a driver
A WORK IN PROGRESS BY JUDITH PLANK
This is an expansion of a short play Judith wrote centering around a woman who leaves her abusive husband to open her own plumbing business to train and support other women who need help. We are excited to help develop this piece!
PUBLISHED PLAYS:
STRING OF PEARLS - by Michele Lowe
The journey of a pearl necklace throughout the years as it passes from woman to woman, changing her life in subtle and unexpected ways, it’s journey also so unexpected and beautiful.
6 - 8 Actors to portray an array of women from 1960 to 1992.
Yes, we have done this play before and it is always so popular it will be nice to do it once again. This will be an homage also, to our beautiful Bethany Hidden who performed in it last year for our very first Women’s Wit & Wisdom festival.
WOMEN LAUGH ALONE WITH SALAD - by Sheila Callaghan
“Women’s vulnerability to stereotypical images of beauty is illuminated in bracingly harsh light in Sheila Callaghan’s raw and raucous Women Laughing Alone With Salad… exuberantly vulgar… Ms. Callaghan’s dark comedy about the oppressive cultural standards by which women are forced to judge themselves, and one another, makes fierce and funny points.” —The New York Times
TORI - 20s - too thin for her own good, low self esteem, does all the things we wish we didn’t when we are not able to stand up for ourselves
MEREDITH - 30s - brash, bold, no holds barred, opposite in physical appearance from Tori, these two are complete opposites
SANDY - late 50s - Guys’ Mother, luxe type but prone to awkwardness
GUY - The guy in the mix, late 20s to early 30s, has no idea really how to be in life and is just trying to figure it out

There are more opportunities coming up as well but this is where we are starting :)
