About this Event
****This is a women-identifying only hike****
DESCRIPTION:
For this adventure, we will be heading to Mt Islip to train for the SIX-PACK OF PEAKS Challenge. We will be summiting one of the more popular peaks in the northeast San Gabriels, Mt Islip, which stands along with its sister peak, Mt Wiliamson astride Islip Saddle. Named after George Islip, the peak is relatively separated from its neighboring peaks providing stunning views on clear days in all directions.
The hike to Mount Islip is a predominantly shaded, gently graded 7 mile trail that offers unparalleled views of the Yerba Santa Amphitheatre, the high peaks of the central San Gabriels, as well as a well-maintained trail camp that’s a favorite of Boy Scouts and PCT thru-hikers. Ruins of an old fire lookout near the summit of Islip provide a bit of historic interest, while on clear days hikers will be able to see both the tallest point in the city of Los Angeles as well as the tallest point in Los Angeles County.
This trail is an 8-mile "out and back" with roughly 2427 feet of elevation gain. It is rated HARD. Like all of our hikes, we will be taking this hike slow with frequent breaks.
There are no reliable water sources on this trail as we will be ascending away from the valley, so please plan on carrying your entire days supply of water with you.
