Empowering women to feel comfortable with power tools to tackle basic repairs and maintenance
About this Event

Truro and Penwith College is proud to offer a hands-on, 3-day course designed to introduce women to power tools and essential home improvement skills. This practical workshop is aimed at building confidence, independence, and knowledge in a traditionally male-dominated field, empowering women to tackle basic repairs and maintenance.

Throughout the course, participants will receive expert guidance from experienced tutors in a supportive, inclusive environment. Day one covers tool safety and handling, introducing the essential power and hand tools. Day two focuses on practical tasks such as assembling flat-pack furniture, fixing things to, and repairing walls. Day three dives into minor plumbing and electrical work, including changing taps, fitting light fixtures, and understanding home maintenance basics.

No previous experience is needed—just a willingness to learn. All tools and materials are provided. By the end of the course, each participant will leave with newfound skills, boosted confidence, and a toolkit of practical knowledge for everyday home improvements.

Whether you're a homeowner, renter, or simply curious, this course offers a valuable and empowering experience. Join us and discover the satisfaction of doing it yourself!

This course is run over three weeks (6th January, 20th January, 3rd February 2026)

Please note that learners will need to wear closed-toe shoes to participate in this course
