About this Event
This is a monthly book club and discussion group to discuss books and topics that address food, eating and body image, in a way that is positive, empowering and educational. This group is for women who are tired of trying all the latest diets, only to feel worse about themselves in the long-term than when they started. Are you ready to ditch diet culture and learn about an alternative approach that shifts the guilt and shame about food and body into curiosity and self-compassion? Are you ready to feel free with food, weight and body image?
December Discussion Topic: The Blue Zones
We are taking a break from "diet culture" books to focus on a positive take on what we can do to live long, healthy lives.
If weight doesn't = health, then what does? What can we learn from "The Blue Zones"?
Watch the Netflix series (Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones), read one of the Blue Zone books, info on the website: https://www.bluezones.com/, or just come for the discussion.
We will start with introductions and then have time for everyone to share their opinions about the topic and ask questions.
The Blue Zone Summary
National Geographic explorer Dan Buettner led teams of researchers across the globe to uncover the longevity secrets of 5 "Blue Zones" (Sardinia, Italy; Okinawa, Japan; Loma Linda, California; Nicoya, Costa Rica; and Icaria, Greece)—geographic regions where high percentages of centenarians are enjoying remarkably long, full lives. Buettner found that the recipe for longevity is deeply intertwined with community, lifestyle, and spirituality.
